The Kuala Lumpur International Tug of War Club Championships, organized by the Malaysia Tug of War Association (MTWA), took place from September 12th to 16th, 2024, at Dataran Merdeka. This prestigious event showcased the strength, strategy, and teamwork inherent in tug of war.

With roots tracing back to ancient civilizations, tug of war is one of the oldest competitive sports, believed to have originated in Egypt, Greece, and China. Once a part of the Olympic Games (1900–1920), it has since evolved into a widely celebrated sport promoting strength, teamwork, and unity.

Teams from around the world gathered to take part in this fantastic event, competing in various categories based on weight and gender. The camaraderie and mutual respect among the teams were remarkable, and the enthusiastic support for each competitor was inspiring.

In addition to the tug of war matches, attendees enjoyed numerous Malaysian events and activities, highlighting the country’s unique culture and athletic spirit.

Founded in 2009, the MTWA is the official governing body for tug of war in Malaysia, based in Kuala Lumpur. The association is affiliated with several international bodies, including:

  • Tug of War International Federation (TWIF)

  • Asian Tug of War Federation (ATWF)

  • ASEAN Tug of War Federation

The MTWA is dedicated to promoting and developing the sport while fostering community and sportsmanship among participants and supporters.

Congratulations to all the winners and participants who gave it their all in this year’s championships. A special thank you goes to the Malaysian Tug of War Association for delivering another excellent event.

We look forward to seeing you next year for another round of intense competition, cultural festivities, and unforgettable moments!
